In a basket there is one more orange than there are pears. Which could not be the total number of oranges and pears in the basket? 41, 43, or 42

Okay ......I will try to answer this ...

Let the number of pears = x
then according to the question, the number of orange = x+1
then the total number of oranges and pears = x+x+1 = 2x+1

which is an odd number....so then answer will be an even number i.e 42.
